It isn’t unreasonable to say that graffiti artist turned clothing designer Marc Ecko was the first to make waves hip hop clothing market when he started selling t-shirts out of his garage under the name Ecko Unlimited in the early 1990s.

From those humble beginnings, Ecko has become one of the most dominate forces in all of fashion. Currently there are twelve brands under the Ecko umbrella. They include Ecko Unlimited, Marc Ecko Cut and Sew, Ecko Red, G-Unit, Zoo York and Avirex.

And while many entrepreneurs in the urban clothing market used their success in other fields to, Ecko did the opposite, capitalizing on his success in fashion and entering other fields. His company currently publishes the popular lifestyle magazine COMPLEX and he has teamed with Electronic Arts to produce several video games, including Marc Ecko: Contents Under Pressure.
